Bhubaneswar All India Open Fide Rating Chess begins

Bhubaneswar : Altogether 165 players from 13 States are participating in the five-day-long 3rd Bhubaneswar All India Open Fide Rating Chess Championship, inaugurated here at Hotel Empires on Wednesday, being organised by Khordha District Chess Association.

One Grand Master, four International Master, one Women Grand Master , five FIDE Master, three Women FIDE Master, two Woman Candidate Master and total of 135 international rated players are fighting for the top prizes.

The tournament featuring total cash award of Rs 5 lakhs. IM Himansu Sharma (rating 2432) of Railway is the top rated player of the meet.

The nine rounds championship was inaugurated by Diptesh Patnaik, IPS, Dy Inspector General of Police, in presence of All Odisha Chess Association joint secretary Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, executive member Gobinda Chandra Mohapatra, Sures Chandra Sahoo and KDCA secretary Subhasis Patnaik.

Odisha (59), Andhra Pradesh (27), Tamilnadu (20), Maharashtra (16), West Bengal (14), Karnatak (nine), Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand (three each), Uttar Pradesh (two), Assam, Chandigarh, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh (one each) are participating. .
