11th times Odisha chess champ KD Pellai passes away

Bhubaneswar : Odisha’s 11th times State champion Krishna Durai Pillai passed away here on Wednesday. At age of 80 he suffered with prolonged illness. He survived with wife, son and daughter.

KD Pillai emerged State champion in the year 1960. He retained his title in the year 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970,1971,1974,1976,1978,1979 and 1982. He worked hard for the development of chess in our State, he also served the State chess association as president. His death is a great loss to chess fraternity and his candid contribution and dedication towards the game will stand rock solid among the generation to coame, said Khurd District Chess Association secretary Subasis Pattnaik. .
